THE
Philippines, being an agricultural country, has the potential of
maximizing its production and income through biotechnology. To
systematically disseminate information on Biotechnology among the
Filipino farmers, the Biotechnology Information and Organization Network
(BIONet) Center of
Tarlac
was established by the Department of Agriculture through the
Biotechnology Program Office.
The aim of BIONet
Center
is to uplift the economic status of farmers by introducing them to
BIOCommerce, an industry in which agricultural products are processed
into consumer products through biotechnology.

Malunggay
BIOCommerce
ISA ang Tarlac
sa unang sumama sa pagma-malunggay. Kasama si Tarlac Governor Victor
Yap na nagpasimuno sa pagtatanim ng malunggay ng makita niya ang
potensyal nito bilang pagkain, produktong pang-benta, gamot at
alternatibong langis sa mga susunod na taon. Dahil
sa inisyatibo ng Tarlac Provincial Government, nabuksan ang mas
maraming oportunidad para sa bio-negosyo o bio-commerce ng malunggay
sa lugar.

THE Research and
Outreach Station that studied the potential of malunggay for
commercialization can be found in Barangay Paraiso, Tarlac. Seven
hectares of land served as the test site for the proper planting and
growing of malunggay.
